Hi-Tech machined a complex flywheel housing structure which included a specialized gyrating center for use in an undisclosed satellite program.
Machined as two separate halves using 5-axis machining capabilities, this flywheel structure requires meeting tight tolerances and a tight fit to ensure the gyration capability works optimally and with the right radii. The team led active design for manufacturability discussions with the customer to update programs and operations in real-time to meet product requirements.
This flywheel housing structure is built for long term durability given it’s primary use on space equipment and low potential to make replacements.
